Eight levels. Each rung adds one capability and its failure mode; every level ends in a capstone.
Level 0 · Read the Raw Signal
Open any raw recording, orient to montage and metadata, and identify common physiological and non-physiological features by eye — before touching a filter.
Level 1 · Signal Fundamentals
Understand what filtering and spectral estimation do to a signal well enough to choose parameters and predict their side effects.
Level 2 · Preprocessing as a Pipeline
Take a raw file to clean continuous data with a scripted, logged, defensible pipeline — and be able to explain every ordering decision.
Level 3 · Event-Related Analysis
Produce, measure, visualize and test ERPs correctly on real data, and design experiments that make them measurable.
Level 4 · Time-Frequency and Oscillations
Estimate time-varying spectral content, normalize it correctly, and decide whether a "rhythm" is real before reporting it.
Level 5 · Connectivity and Spatial Analysis
Understand why volume conduction dominates sensor-space relationships, use the measures and spatial transforms that are robust to it, and know what source estimation can and cannot defend.
Level 6 · Inference and Rigor
Make claims that survive scrutiny: control the search space, use models that respect the data structure, quantify effects and precision, and report so others can reproduce.
Level 7 · Applied Electives
Apply the ladder to real domains. Electives are independent of each other; each lists its own prerequisites.
